PCHS girls finish fifth at indoor track meet

ORONO — The Piscataquis Community High School girls picked up 24 points to place fifth among a field of six teams during a Dec. 22 Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League meet at the University of Maine New Balance Field House.

Pirate sophomore Ava Goulette led her team by placing second in the shot put, with a throw of 32 feet, 6 inches.

PCHS had third- and fourth-place performances in the 800 from sophomore Molly Goodwin and senior Tiare Channon with respective times of 3:14.44 and 3:14.85. 

Channon also tied for third in the high jump at 4-00 with John Bapst Memorial High School of Bangor junior Sofia Martinez-Mendoza. Goodwin came in sixth with her height of 3-10.

In the boys’ meet, Foxcroft Academy scored 20 points to place sixth among six point-scoring teams.

The Pony 4×800 relay had the top time of the competition. Sophomore Joesph Knapp, freshman Pace Jarrett, junior Runner Jarrett, and senior Zachary Peirce combined for a time of 10:02.18. The four were more than 76 seconds faster than the time of 11:18.62 for runner-up Brewer High School.

Runner Jarrett would also place second in the mile at 5:13.40, while Peirce was sixth with his time of 5:42.81.

Knapp added a sixth-place finish in the 200 at 26.17 seconds.

In the other meet on Dec. 22, the Dexter Regional High School boys were 10th of 10 teams with four points.

Tiger sophomore Brady Jerome had a fourth-place throw in the shot put with his heave measuring 36-10.
