Start medical assistant training and earn while you learn

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Maine Highlands residents who would like to become medical assistants now have an easier path to reach their goals thanks to a free medical assistant training and “earn while you learn” opportunity.

Northern Light Mayo Hospital invites applications for its 14-week certified clinical medical assistant training program scheduled to begin on Jan. 22. Individuals accepted into the program will receive training at no cost. They will also become part-time CA Dean or Mayo Hospital employees and will be paid 20 hours per week for time spent learning.

Upon completing the class, students will take the certified clinical medical assistant certification exam and can apply for full time employment. MAs hired by CA Dean or Mayo Hospital may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.

Medical assistants support physicians, family nurse practitioners, and physician assistants with patient care in a medical practice setting. Duties include helping providers with procedures, following up with patients on lab and test results, rooming patients, and preloading and confirming office appointments.

A medical assistant career is a good option for parents and families who appreciate a consistent schedule and good work/life balance.

“A career as a medical assistant provides competitive pay and benefits and opportunities for professional development,” says Nikki Chadwick, RN, MSN, CPHQ, vice president of quality and education, Mayo Hospital. “Many medical assistants appreciate the Monday-Friday schedule and flexibility to work full time or part time.”

Opportunities for advancement are available within the hospitals’ medical assistant career ladder, and medical assistants can even continue their education and training to pursue careers in nursing, medical practice management, and more
