Two first half goals helps Lee Academy down PCHS girls

GUILFORD — With the regular season winding down for soccer teams across the state, Piscataquis Community High School hosted Lee Academy in an 8-player Small School North matchup under the lights on Saturday evening, Oct. 14. The visiting Pandas scored twice in the first half, and held onto the 2-1 lead across the second half to earn the victory in both team’s next to last match before the postseason.

PCHS fell to 7-5-1, as the two teams ended up splitting the pair of 2023 contests. The Pirates had a 2-1 win on the road in northern Penobscot County back on Oct. 4.

Lee (the team improved to 8-5) got on the scoreboard nearly six minutes into play. Elena Linscott received a pass from Aubrey Gifford and Linscot broke away and got off a shot that found the left of the Pirate goal at the 24;13-mark.

Late in the opening half Linscott again broke away, this time taking a pass from teammate Avery Oliver, and she found the left of the PCHS goal for a 2-0 lead with 2:42 remaining before the half.

Before the Pirates and Pandas could take a rest, PCHS cut its deficit in half. Brookelynn Hunt brought the ball down the right side of the Lee end of the field and she had a crossing path to Jazmin Channon. Channon controlled Hunt’s pass and she directed the ball in to put the Pirates on the scoreboard with 58.3 seconds on the clock.
