Dexter rolls past Mattanawcook with eight goals

Dow leads Tigers with three goals

DEXTER — Heading into the Sept. 22 Class C North field hockey game vs. Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln, Dexter Regional High School had won five of six matches but the Tigers had scored no more than three goals in any of these half dozen contests.

Dexter more than doubled its previous 2023-high with a goal in every quarter to end the day with eight, including three from junior Preslee Dow, in an 8-1 victory to improve to 6-1 at the midway point of the regular season.

THREE-GOAL DAY — Dexter junior Preslee Dow scored three times, including twice in the second quarter, to help the Tigers earn an 8-1 victory vs. Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln on Sept. 22. The Tigers more than doubled the team’s previous season-high in goals to improve to 6-1.

Dow matched the old team-high of three goals on her own, including finding the Lynx (the team fell to 0-5 but did have its first goal of the season after four consecutive shutouts) goal twice in the second quarter. Her third goal came in the final session. Dow assisted on junior McKenzie Clay’s second-quarter goal to have a hand in all three picked up by the Tigers in the second 15-minute duration. Clay would add another goal in the third quarter.

Keira Bennett also found the Mattanawcook goal twice as she scored in both quarters of the second half. Sophomore Genevieve Rich got Dexter on the scoreboard about 7:30 into play, and she would assist Dow’s second goal of the second quarter.

In addition to the goal differential, the Tigers also had a marked advantage in penalty corners at 16-2 overall. Dexter had 10 in the opening half and another four in the third quarter, while not allowing the Lynx to have any corners until the fourth quarter.
