Chamber ribbon cutting welcomes Whitney’s Variety

By Stuart Hedstrom, Staff Writer

DOVER-FOXCROFT — About four months after the doors were first opened, Whitney’s Variety on East Main Street was formally welcomed to the region with a Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony during the business’ grand opening festivities held in the early afternoon of Thursday, May 25.

In January siblings Alan Whitney and Laci Daigle opened the doors of Whitney’s Variety at the base of the hill of East Main and Pleasant streets where Foxbrook Variety had previously stood for decades. Whitney Markets have been in existence since 2004, and have operated in several Maine towns including about 20 miles down Route 15 in Corinth.

Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Denise Buzzelli welcomed the family to the region. “It is wonderful to drive in and see such a beautiful building at the beginning of our town and the seat of our county,” she said. “It just levels us up, brings the professionalism up, and it’s very welcoming. We’re blessed and thankful that you chose Dover-Foxcroft to bring this vision to life and we wish you all the best and you have all of our support.”

“I am thankful for the family that I work for,” Store Manager Lisa Dowling said before snipping the blue ribbon. “They’re an awesome family and I am glad I have this opportunity.”
