Mullis receives Future Leaders Scholarship from Girl Scouts of Maine

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Rachel Mullis, a graduating Girl Scout Ambassador from Dover-Foxcroft has received a Silver Level Girl Scouts of Maine Joanne Crepeau Future Leaders Scholarship for her exemplary efforts within the organization and demonstrated leadership skills.

Established in 2018, the Joanne Crepeau Future Leaders Scholarship has awarded $97,000 to 59 Girl Scouts in Maine, to date. Scholarship recipients were chosen based on their answers to three questions during the application process:

• How has Girl Scouts made a difference in your life?
• What do you see as the biggest challenge facing girls and women today?
• In five years, how do you see yourself addressing this challenge?

“I’ve learned a lot of important things from my time in Girl Scouts, but I think one of the most significant is how to be an active member of my community and how to help those around me. I wouldn’t be the same person without that passion for community service that Girl Scouts gave me,” says Mullis.

Inspired by the lack of representation for women and girls within politics, Mullis pledges to vote for women and support female campaigns for office at the local, state, and national levels — hopefully running for Congress herself one day. Mullis, who is a senior at Foxcroft Academy and will graduate as the valedictorian, will attend the University of Maine where she will major in English.

Mullis was presented with her Silver Level scholarship award on May 13 at the 2023 GSME annual celebration held at the Messalonskee Performing Arts Center in Oakland.
