Piscataquis Radar Runs return Saturday

DOVER-FOXCROFT — After braving frigid temperatures in early February, organizers will hold a second day of racing for the second revived edition of the Piscataquis Radar Runs on Saturday, March 18  at the Charles A. Chase Jr. Memorial Field off Pine Street. Runs start at 10 a.m. with registration from 8-10 a.m.

Entrants can run twice for $20, proceeds to benefit several community programs. Payouts of $250, $150, and $100 go to first- through third-place performances.

Last month on the event Facebook page Lindsay Sands, who co-owns 207 Powersports with her husband Garrett Sands and is one of several organizers, said more than 30 sleds took part. Darren Colbry had the day’s top time at 131 mph and the top speed in the mini mods was 25 mph.

“We were able to raise over $3,000 just from yesterday alone,” Sands wrote. “I cannot wait to see how we do at March’s event! For anyone who is curious what we do with all the funds raised at our event, we donate funds to organizations in our community who are in need. We have yet to decide where we want our funds to go this year, but we are open to suggestions!”

Last year, organizers gave funds collected through registration fees to the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department, Piscataquis Valley Snowmobile Club, and Penquis Youth Hockey Association.
