Foxcroft girls sixth at PVC swim championship

ORONO — The Foxcroft Academy girls swim team finished sixth among a field of nine schools with a score of 69 points at the 2023 Penobscot Valley Conference championship at the University of Maine over the weekend.

A pair of Pony relay teams came in sixth. The 200-yard freestyle relay — made up of Maddy Gaylord, Abby Kemp, Laney Reardon, and Dylan Coy — was sixth in a time of 2 minutes, 7.32 seconds. The same four girls were sixth in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:53.45.

Coy placed sixth in the 200 IM at 2:38.10, and was ninth in the 100 freestyle in a time of 1:04.34.

The Foxcroft 200 medley relay, Gaylord, Kemp, Reardon, and Zlata Paslon, was seventh in 2:32.17.

The Ponies had three 11th-place swims, Reardon in the 100 butterfly at 1:17.38; Gaylord in the 100 backstroke at 1:17.64; and Kemp in the 100 breaststroke at 1:34.27. 

Full girls results are 1. MDI 345 points; 2. Ellsworth 298; 3. John Bapst 157; 4. Brewer 138 5. Old Town 108 6. Foxcroft Academy 69; 7. George Stevens Academy 64; 8. Hampden Academy 50; and 9. Bangor 46.

In the boys’ meet, Piscataquis Community High School’s Jorgen Halvorsen finished 11th in the 100 breaststroke with his time of 1:29.69. The two points put the Pirates in 13th place.

The Class B state championships will be at Colby College in Waterville with the girls on Tuesday, Feb. 21 and the boys on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
