GFWC Miosac Club news

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs Miosac Club met on Oct. 18. The meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. by Vice President Wendy Hutchins. Diane Leighton did the roll call —-there were 13 members present. One new member, Ramona Parsell, joined us to make it 14!

Leighton read the secretary’s report, accepted and filed.

Corresponding Secretary Roxy McGlauflin read a letter from the Kiwanis Club asking if we would be participating in the yearly “Adopt a Child” project. We voted a resounding yes! We collect money from our members each year and can usually provide a wonderful Christmas for three children. We would like the donations by the next meeting and we need to select a chair.

Suzanne Raymond read an email from our President Minnie McCormick who had fallen at her home on Oct. 6 and fractured her right leg and arm in five places. She’s had an operation, is home, and doing very well to all our relief.

Raymond read the treasurer’s report, accepted and filed.

Brenda Quiet reported our next meeting will be on Nov. 1 at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church at 6 p.m. Austin will do a program on the Linus Quilts project.

Vickie Parsons reported that McCormick will be back at the November meeting. Parsons will be having an operation soon so Cress will take over as our Lookout in her absence.

We discussed with Betsy Ryan about an update on our local directory. She has some more typesetting issues and should be printed very soon so we can distribute them to our customers.

Vicki Moschella and Anne Cress reported on the GFWC Maine Fall Conference held on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Senator Inn in Augusta. Cress wrote up the events and sent it in to the Piscataquis Observer.

Hutchins brought up a possible Christmas project for us. The Masons will be having a festival of trees. We would donate a tree with all the trimmings to be raffled off. Yes, we’ll be happy to do this.

Rheba Michaud asked if we would be interested in continuing our monthly donations to the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard of paper goods, cleansers, shampoos and conditioners, etc. We decided we will continue this helpful project.

We will discuss continuing our “Ice Out” campaign and summer yard sale at the next meeting. Hutchins adjourned the meeting at 6:55 p.m.

Hostesses Parsons and Dot Tonic provided delicious treats to eat and drink.

Betsy Ryan gave us an incredibly informative program about “The Highlights of Women’s Club’s Movements.” She had data all the way back to the 1700s.
