Dexter cross country runs at Red Riot Challenge

ORONO — The Dexter Regional High School cross country team took part in the Red Riot Challenge at Orono High School on the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 8.

Tiger senior Emma Alexander covered the 2.5-mile course in a time of 21 minutes, 3.17 seconds. This was good for 17th place among a field of 31 entrants.

Orono junior Ruth White won the girls’ race in 14:14.95, besting the runner-up by about 2:16.

White helped the host Red Riots finish in first place among three full squads with a score of 17 points. Narraguagus Jr/Sr High School of Harrington came in second with 57 points, a point ahead of the 58 for third place George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

In the boys’ race, Dexter senior David Race ran a time of 18:18.47 to place 37th among 50 entrants. Senior Trevor Speed was 41st at 18:50.07, and senior Allen Gatchell came in 50th at 25:58.89.

Bucksport High School junior William Hileman won the Red Riot Challenge in 12:53.19, only a fraction of a second ahead of the 12:53.47 for Sumner Memorial High School of Sullivan junior Kaleb Colson.

George Stevens earned top boys honors among a half dozen full teams with 53 points. Sumner came in second at 67, and Bucksport was third with 75 points.
