Food organizations unite to help those in need
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis Regional Food Center and Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard announce their intention to unify under the PRFC name at the end of 2022.
In an effort to reach more people struggling with food insecurity, the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard, a nonprofit addressing hunger in the region, announces it is merging with Piscataquis Regional Food Center, a local nonprofit addressing food insecurity throughout the Maine Highlands region.
Under the Asset Contribution Agreement, Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard will become a program of PRFC and will continue food distributions to area residents. Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard Board President April Sargent said, “The work that PRFC does aligns with our mission of providing food to those in need and helping our greater community. By joining PRFC we can ensure our mission continues as the need increases.”
PRFC Board President and DFAFC board member Whitney Gould-Cookson shared, “The Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard came to us early this year and asked if we would be interested in taking over the Food Cupboard’s operations to help ensure that its services can grow and flourish. It is a good partnership. We’ve been working closely together for many years and share a common mission.”
“Food insecurity has increased following the pandemic and food prices continue to climb. Unfortunately, donations to Dover Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard did not increase sufficiently to keep pace making the organization’s future uncertain. As one organization we will be better able to secure grants, raise funds and respond to the increasing need for food assistance in the region.” stated PRFC Executive Director Kelly Sirimoglu. “The Dover Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard has done an excellent job ensuring that anyone in the area in need has access to healthy food. Uniting as one larger organization helps ensure that this critical work will continue.”
The organizations expect the transition to take place at the end of the year with no anticipated changes to the food distribution schedule. If you need assistance with food, please contact PRFC at 207-802-8230 to learn about upcoming distributions and deliveries.
