FA boys track finishes first at regular season finale

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Foxcroft Academy boys outdoor track and field team finished in first place at the team’s last meet Penobscot Valley Conference regular season meet on Monday afternoon. The Ponies ended the day with 221 points, ahead of the 175 for second place John Bapst Memorial High School of Bangor. Central High School of Corinth was third with a score of 91 points and Penquis Valley High School finished fourth with 10 points.

Jacob Reed picked up a trio of first-place performances. His leap of 18 feet, 9.75 inches in the long jump gave him first place by more than 8 inches. Reed won the triple jump in 38-08.50, ahead of the 36-05 for teammate Jackson Smith. Reed and Smith tied for top honors in the high jump as they both cleared the bar at 5-08.

Jesse Drury won both the 100 and 200 for the Ponies, with respective times of 12.03 and 24.47 seconds (winning by 0.29 seconds and just over one second).

Kyle Jankunas swept the hurdles. His time of 18.61 seconds was the fastest at 110 meters, giving him first place by 1.5 seconds. Jankunas came in first in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.13 seconds, teammate Aidan Currie was second at 49.03 seconds.

Runner Jarrett placed first in the 1,600 in 5:20.09, winning by over 14 seconds. Jarrett also came in second in the 3,200 at 11:26.72.

Foxcroft had individual second-place performances by Eion Mccloske in the 200, 25.58 seconds; David Scheel in the shot put, 37-00.50; and Austin Seavey in the javelin, 131-07.

Two Pony relays teams came in second. The 4×100 relay — which included Smith, Mccloskey, and Drury — was second in 46.68 seconds. The 4×400 squad — Reed, Jasper Makowski, Zachary Peirce, and Jankunas — was second in 3:59.58.

For Penquis, Damion Drake finished second in the 1,600 with his time of 5:34.90.

In the girls’ meet, John Bapst placed first with 172 points and Central was second with 160. Foxcroft came in third with 81 points and Penquis was fourth at 23.

The Ponies’ Abigail Knapp ran the fastest time in the 400 at 1:06.13, giving her first place by 1.82 seconds.

Olivia Hill won the javelin with her throw of exactly 80 feet. Teammate Emma Ladd was second at 68-09.

Foxcroft’s 4×800 relay came in second at 8:02.51, and was made up of Nora Koskela-Koivisto, Jasmine Baravaglia, Miriam Perez, and Olivia McCorrison.

Penquis had the top two triple jumpers. Jahlysa Cruz won the event at a distance of 26-04.75. Ida-Grace Lundin was second at 22-09.50.
