GREENVILLE — Join the Shaw Public Library, in partnership with Moosehead Trails, for a presentation by local author and hiker: Chris Keene. “Less Traveled Local Trails” will be held at the library at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

We will also broadcast this event on Zoom: https://networkmaine.zoom.us/j/81987020553. Meeting ID: 819 8702 0553.

Christopher Packard will discuss his new book “Mythical Creatures of Maine” at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22 as we take a tour through the deep history of Maine through stories about mysterious, outlandish, and terrifying creatures, cryptids, and beings. Learn how a biologist and science teacher came to write a book about mythical creatures as we survey the creatures of folklore that populate our state.

From Wabanaki creatures to modern cryptozoology and everything in between including sailors, French Canadian settlers, lumberjacks, and guides we’ll look at creatures known to the people who know the land best. We will discuss how and if these creatures really exist as well as the importance and meaning of cultural stories as we discuss how these beliefs and stories are related across cultures in Maine and around the world. The talk will be custom tailored to the Greenville region.
