Retired educators news

DEXTER — Thirteen members and one 3-year-old grandchild attended the Oct. 26 meeting of the Piscataquis County Retired Educators Association at the FAMBily Restaurant in Dexter.  After the meeting was called to order and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, Janie Lander read the minutes from the September meeting. On a motion by Karen L. and a second by Jane C. the minutes were approved and accepted.

The Schoolhouse Box for change was passed around and felt pretty heavy at the end of the rounds. Priscilla reported that there is $3000.90 in the general fund.

EDUCATION DEDICATION — Rheba Michaud presents Myrna Ricker with a lovely fall bouquet for her dedication to the Piscataquis County Retired Educators Association.

A very nice note from the superintendent in SAD 33 was shared thanking our group for the $250 donation to the Dr. Levesque School in Frenchville. Jane Conroy gave a brief overview of happenings in the Legislation. We all agreed that we are ready for the political ads to end.

Our portion of the State’s Day of Caring is complete. Lander was able to catch up with all four of the county’s athletic directors to hand deliver a check in the amount of $100 for the purpose of updating each districts’ sports medical kits.

Minnie led the Necrology in loving memory of Judy Leighton and Jerry Smith. Leighton taught first grade at Morton Avenue in Dover-Foxcroft for many years and Smith was the custodian for many years at Morton Avenue.

Rheba Michuad presented Myrna Ricker with a lovely bouquet of fall flowers in observance of Myrna’s  dedication to attending our monthly meetings into her ninth decade. She’s an inspiration to each of us!

Members were reminded to keep track of their volunteer and exercise hours to be totaled for the April 2022 meeting. Either bring a storybook to the November meeting or drop off at Michaud’s house prior to the meeting so that the Kiwanians will have all of our book donations before the end of November.

The meeting ended with a sharing of Halloween memories and good-byes to the snowbirds soon to be headed south.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, Nov. 18 in the conference room at Morton Avenue. Bring your own lunch. There will not be a meeting in December.
