Foxcroft improves to 6-0 with a 41-6 victory vs. Poland
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Foxcroft Academy jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and defeated Poland Regional High School by a final score of 41-6 for the team’s sixth win in as many games during the school’s 2021 Homecoming on Oct. 15. Pony senior Jesse Drury rushed for three touchdowns and 229 yards on 11 carries, senior quarterback Austin Seavey threw for the other touchdowns, and the six points allowed is a season-low for Foxcroft.
In the first ever meeting between the Ponies and Knights as part of the new statewide Class D, Foxcroft elected to receive the opening kickoff. Despite three incompletions on three consecutive first down plays, the team moved the ball from the Foxcroft 40-yard line to the Poland-17 for a fourth-and-3.
The Foxcroft offense stayed on the field and the handoff was given to Drury. Running left, he slipped a tackle to go past the first down marker. Drury accelerated and broke away for a 17-yard touchdown. The PAT by sophomore Kemsley Marsters, his first of five on the evening, would turn out to be the game-winning point.

Following a three-and-out from the Foxcroft defense, the offense faced a third-and-5 at the Pony-47. The football was put in Drury’s hands again and he maintained his balance to avoid slipping on the wet grass and broke a tackle to pick up the first down, but he was not done as he rushed 53 yards for the score. Drury gained 132 yards on five carries with two touchdowns in the opening quarter for more than half of his 229 total yards on the ground.
In quarter No. 2 Seavey and senior Gideon Topolski connected on a pair of touchdown passes.
Facing a fourth-and goal from the Poland-19 (a holding penalty and bad snap pushed the line of scrimmage back) Seavey threw down the left sideline. Topolski leapt to make the catch outside the end zone and he pulled the defender with him as he crossed the goal line.
BIG NIGHT ON THE GROUND — Senior Jesse Drury rushed for three touchdowns and 229 yards on 11 carries on Oct. 15. Among the linemen paving the way were sophomore center Jack Caruso (50) and junior right tackle DJ Scheel (52).
In the final minute of the opening half, Seavey found Topolski open in the end zone for a 6-yard touchdown.
Seavey would finish 9-of-17 for 120 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Topolski led all players with four receptions and he tied for the game-high with 51 receiving yards.
Poland scored just over halfway through the third quarter, but Foxcroft quickly got the touchdown back.

Two plays later the team had possession at the Knight’s 47. Seavey had more than enough time to stand in the pocket and heave the ball to his left inside the 5-yard line. Junior Caden Crocker made the reception in traffic and despite having his legs grabbed by the defensive back, he was able to force his way free and get into the end zone. Crocker tied Topolski for the game-high in receiving yards at 51 apiece.
Drury would add a 6-yard touchdown with just over four minutes to go, as he broke a would-be tackle on his way to the end zone.
Poland fell to 1-3 with the loss at Oakes Field (the team has had two cancellations). The 41 points given up against the Ponies are the most for the Knights in the four games.

Next up on the schedule for Foxcroft is a trip to Winthrop on Friday, Oct. 22 to face the Winthrop High School/Monmouth Academy cooperative program (4-0 before a Monday game vs. Freeport High School) in a battle of unbeatens. The winner will have the inside track to earn the top seed for next months’ Class D playoffs.
