The Allen family murders

MONSON — Someone, on May 12, 1901, murdered J. Wesley Allen — a strong and large man 53 years of age, his wife Mary and teenage daughter Carrie at their farm in Shirley, then set fire to the buildings and fled the scene. Who dun’ it?

Following a miscarriage of justice the case lay unsolved for over 100 years. But now, thanks to Bill James, a statistician, it appears the actual murderer has finally been identified. Carlson Williams will discuss the murder, the subsequent trail of an innocent man and the identification of the mass murderer who included Shirley, Maine in his 12-year killing spree.

The Monson Historical Society is very pleased to have Williams as our guest speaker at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at the Tenney House in Monson. The Tenney House is on Route 15 as you enter town, white house on the left. If you have questions or need directions call the Bennetts at 207-876-3073.
