All-inclusive family camp out offered by the PCSWCD

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District has offered our Families in the Outdoors series since 2017. Through this program, we have shared experiences such as snowshoeing, rock and mineral identifying, planting pollinator gardens and close encounters with Maine wildlife with local families. We are proud of this program and we continue to accomplish our goal of getting families together outdoors, experiencing nature and learning together. The PCSWCD is really excited to announce our newest adventure in our Families in the Outdoors series, Camp Out!, Aug. 13-14 at the Law Farm Nature Trails.

Families in the Outdoors: Camp Out! is an 2-day, overnight tent camping adventure. PCSWCD has been working on building the Camp Out! program for several years, ensuring that it is designed as a fun introduction to camping. This shouldn’t stop all you experienced campers from joining us — there will be tons of fun for all! Our goal is to make this program “all-inclusive” meaning when you register, all you need is pretty much yourselves — tents, equipment, food and programming are all included. We are teaming up with University of Maine “Maine Bound,” and will have two experienced Maine Bound guides leading games, activities, teaching participants how to pitch tents and build campfires, cook over campfires and much more. Maine Bound is also providing the tents, cooking tools and gear folks will be using. This is a great way for families to try out camping as everything is provided and a way for experienced campers to enjoy the great outdoors while skipping all that gear packing and prep.

As if that wasn’t enough to entice you, PCSWCD will host author Aislinn Sarnacki for campfire stories! Sarnacki is a Maine outdoors writer and the author of three Maine hiking guidebooks including “Family Friendly Hikes in Maine.” She has spent her life in the outdoors, from working as an outfitter to completing a year-long honors thesis at the University of Maine about Maine trails and the benefits of an active outdoor life. She is a weekly columnist for the “Outdoors” and “Living” sections of the Bangor Daily News and Bangor Metro. We are so excited to have her as a part of this great event.

Registration is open. Space is limited to 10 family groups. There is a registration fee, which is needed for complete registration. Please reach out to PCSWCD as there are scholarships available. To register, visit www.piscataquisswcd.org, or email info@piscataquisswcd.org with questions.

Families in the Outdoors: Camp Out! is designed for families with children ages 5-plus. This program is sponsored by Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis, Helping Hands with Heart and the Thompson Free Library. PCSWCD and the families participating in this event are grateful for your contributions and support.
