‘It’s My Nature Series’ events with PCSWCD and Outdoor Women
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District has teamed up with Outdoor Women, an organization based out of Sangerville that connects women who share a common interest in a diverse range of outdoor activities and provide a base of support and encouragement. They focus on empowering women and raise awareness by discovering, documenting and celebrating women’s lives and achievements made in the outdoors. Last month began the first of the collaborative series called “It’s My Nature Series” with an “Observe & Track” event that focused on women exploring the Law Farm Nature Trails, public land located in Dover-Foxcroft and managed by PCSWCD. The event was led by PCSWCD staff. Twenty seven participants including Maine’s Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Commissioner, Judy Camuso attended. They explored and engaged with staff along the trails to learn how to properly overview their own existing parcel of land. The Law Farm provides a wide variety of examples on how to engage with your own woodlot, recreational trails or pasture to implement best management practices for Agroforestry, wetlands and permaculture along with additional educational signs along the way. The event was a success.

Outdoor Women and PCSWCD will continue the series on Wednesday, March 31 from 1-3 p.m. with our “Tea & Trees” event at the Law Farm Nature Trails, located on Lee Cemetery Road. Women are invited to register with PCSWCD to join UMaine Resource of Forestry professor, owner and operator of Wicopy Woods in Sebec Dr. Jessica Leahy alongside Maine Forest Service Terri Coolong. Both women have exponential backgrounds in forestry in Maine and welcome other women to attend the informal gathering who want to talk about their land, forests or forestry.
PCSWCD looks forward to seeing you out at the Law Farm for this informative conversation. Spaces are limited and you must pre-register to join us. There is a small fee per person, which helps support our educational offerings. PCSWCD follows state and CDC guidelines and participants will be required to mask and practice physical distancing during this event.
