A note of thanks
To the Editor;
As we come to the end of the very unique and challenging year of 2020 in RSU 68, I would like to share a few words of appreciation. We have the most incredible team at SeDoMoCha from the custodians and kitchen staff to the teachers, ed techs, school board, administrative team, administrative assistants, bus drivers, families and community members and I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of them.
Closure for the year happened sooner than we had hoped for; however, here are just a few snapshots of the amazing work our RSU 68 team has been doing. Twenty-six staff members are participating in book studies. Thirty-four staff members have participated in virtual workshops. Four grade levels are working on vocabulary work and leveling reading books. Our tradition of having the One Book, One School program continued this year. A highlight was when our principal and a classroom teacher created a scavenger hunt on the RSU 68 Warren Nature Trail across the street from the school. Our athletic director worked with a small team of teachers to create opportunities for middle school students to participate in intramurals. So while we are still following all the CDC guidelines, I am thankful that we are still providing our students with the best educational opportunities.
We continue to try and connect with the community as well. Although our foster grandparents have been unable to come into the building, they remain in touch with students by email and assist teachers by helping to cut out materials for the classroom. Our kitchen staff prepares meals for our remote, preschool and homeschool learners. The Helping Hands with Heart committee provided our school library with books on yoga, meditation and trauma. We are also working with the PRYMCA to create a program to reinforce students, who are working remotely, both academically and socially. We appreciate all of our community support.
My new year’s wish for each of you is that you are able to take time to relax and rejuvenate. I am proud to say that together we have all responded to this pandemic to the best of our ability and in the best interest and safety of our students and staff. And, I can confidently say that I expect that we will continue to do the same as we welcome 2021.
