PRYMCA to close until March 27

DOVER-FOXCROFT — With an effort to support social distancing and reduce potential exposure to COVID-19 within the Piscataquis community, the Piscataquis Regional YMCA announced that the facility will close on Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27.

Executive Director Mandy Adams explained the decision was made with an effort to support the overall health of the community, “With much thought and research of the growing concerns within our community, we have decided to close our facility until March 27. As a central location to all ages, but especially our youth who are not attending school, as well as our seniors who are very vulnerable to illness, we have determined it to be irresponsible of us to remain open, potentially exposing our members. We believe we need to take this time to follow the guidelines presented to us by professionals, and reduce all close contact for great lengths of time with other individuals, which would be exhibited in all ways while utilizing our facility, whether it be the fitness center, groups exercise classes or our pool. During the closure, we will be spending much of our time cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing the facility and equipment to ensure we are prepared to open again as soon we see fit.”

Piscataquis Regional YMCA memberships will be on hold for the remainder of the month and programs scheduled during this shutdown will resume as normal when the facility re-opens.

“We merely wish to do our part to reduce the curve associated with the infection rate of this illness,” said Adams. “We are supportive of our other community businesses and entities for their decisions to remain open or closed and wish to support our members as much as we can through this uncertain time. We are so thankful  for the support and understanding of our members. We will update as things progress and as soon as we determine the appropriate time to reopen.”

Piscataquis Regional YMCA members and community members are encouraged to check the PRYMCA website PRYMCA.org, Facebook page facebook.com/PRYMCA and instagram account @PRYMCA1988 for updates.
