New AAU boys basketball team formed in Dover-Foxcroft

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The basketball season is not over yet for a talented group of sixth-graders from Dover-Foxcroft.

Fresh from a 14-0 season as the SeDoMoCha Middle School ‘B’ team, the group now is  competing at the AAU level as the first-year Dover-Foxcroft Eagles.

The 10-player Eagles’ roster consists of Austin Cornett, Lucas Sands, Landon Smith, Finn Holmes, Grant Howard, Beckham Ade, Griffin Caruso, Aidan Bryant, Isaiah Page and Lennon McAfee. John Cornett is the head coach, assisted by Tom Sands, Seth Sands and Jared Holmes.

“The level of play will be more physically and mentally challenging, but this will only help the boys grow individually and as a team.” coach Cornett said.

The Dover-Foxcroft Eagles are being supported through a generous donation from Gordon Contracting, Inc., which has provided new uniforms and paid all dues and fees for the team to enter five competitive AAU tournaments beginning this weekend at the Maine Hoops March Mayhem Travel Team II event to be held at XL Sports World in Saco.

The Eagles also will participate in four other two-day events this spring: the ninth annual Black Bear North Maine Open on March 21-22; Zero Gravity Northern New England Championship on March 28-29; Maine State Club Basketball Championships on April 4-5; and Zero Gravity Maine States on May 2-3.
