PCES recognizes January Students of the Month
GUILFORD — Eleven pupils in grades 5-8 at Piscataquis Community Elementary School are January Students of the Month. The honorees were presented with certificates in front of their peers and teachers during an assembly in the cafeteria to start the day on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
Students of the Month are selected by their teachers for criteria such as outstanding citizenship and academic performance.

Assistant Principal Jessica Dunton told the audience, “We have some good students for Students of the Month so thank you teachers for nominating these students.” She mentioned that several honorees were selected by multiple teachers.
Dunton said that some of the Students of the Month “are serious in her work and is also easy going and has a great sense of humor,” another is a “well-rounded student and is a positive role model for her peers” and remarked some others also are part of sports teams in addition to their achievements in the classroom.
“Three grade 7 students have shown a desire to do better in math overall,” Dunton said. The assistant principal said another January Student of the Month “gives their best effort and always comes in with a smile on their face.”
The newest Students of the Month at PCES are fifth-graders Donivan Boutiler, Emery Jo Chambers and Haylee Szczepkowski; Arianna Crosby and Hannah Firth representing grade 6; grade 7 honorees Abby Burgess, Baylynn Grant, Timothy MacNeil, Lena Pearson and Sarah Silva; and eighth-grader Braylin Bilodeau.
The morning meeting included the recognition of PCES “Upstanders,” students who have stood up for their peers and/or others over the previous few weeks. Guidance Director Jason Schriver said the seven newest Upstanders have all been “helping people who really needed it.”
The Upstanders were presented with a personalized boomerang made by Schriver, signifying that good deeds come back. These honorees are fifth-graders Haylee Marshall, Jolene Morales and Caleigh Tuttle; and Heston Cullicutt, Brookelin Dorman, Brookelynn Hunt and Noah Kain, all from grade 6.
