Dexter cheering qualifies for state championship

BANGOR — Sumner Memorial High School of East Sullivan already had two titles to its credit this season as it captured the Penobscot Valley Conference Class C competition and the Downeast Athletic Conference event.

 

The Tigers added the Class C North championship to its mantelpiece on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Cross Insurance Center with an exceptional energetic routine performed to precision.

 

Sumner will try to claim its first state Class C crown since 2010 at the state championships at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday, Feb. 8.

 

Sumner tallied 77.9 points and was one of six schools to qualify.

 

Central High School of Corinth was second with 66.1 points and the other four qualifiers were Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln (65.1), Houlton High School (64.2), Bucksport High School (57.5) and Dexter Regional High School (57). The other teams were Foxcroft Academy (53.8), Calais High School (52.8), Orono High School (50.3) and Mt. View High School of Thorndike (36).

 

Qualifying for the state championship competition from Class C South were Monmouth Academy (73.6), Lisbon High School (73.1), Mountain Valley High School of Rumford (64.3), Wells High School (61.8), Sacopee Valley High School of Hiram (61.1) and Madison Area Memorial High School/Carrabec High School (58.3).
