U.S. Rep. Golden tours county small businesses 

U.S. Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine recently spent the day in Piscataquis County to visit small businesses, speaking with folks at the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council, and learning more about the Piscataquis Regional Food Center in Dover-Foxcroft.

Golden joined Dawn Willett, owner and operator of The Farm at Moosehead in Greenville, for a tour of her business. The two discussed how small farms often struggle with licensing and regulatory processes and other challenges that come with running a small business and farm. They also talked about difficulties some small businesses and their workers face to access affordable health care in the area.

CONGRESSMAN’S VISIT — Glacier Wear owner Randy Richard, right, gave a tour to U.S Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine during a recent visit to the region. Golden toured businesses in Greenville and Dover-Foxcroft and met with area organizations.

The congressman also visited Glacier Wear in Greenville. Golden toured the operation with owners Colleen and Randy Richard. They discussed health care access for small business owners and workers and some of the unique challenges Glacier Wear faces when exporting fur.

Golden continued his day with a discussion on workforce development issues with members of the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council, Mayo Regional Hospital, Piscataquis Valley Adult Education Cooperative and the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce. He also met with members of Helping Hands with Heart.

At the end of the day, Golden visited the Piscataquis Regional Food Center. The Center works to help people in Piscataquis County access healthy food. Golden met with the executive director and operations manager about how to improve access to healthy food in Piscataquis County and new opportunities for  expansion.
