Daughters of the American Revolution surpasses one million members 

The National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution is a women’s service organization whose members can trace their lineage to an individual who contributed to securing American independence during the Revolutionary War. More than one million total members have joined the organization since its founding in 1890.

Tisbury Manor Chapter NSDAR, based in Monson, has welcomed 111 members since the chapter began on Nov. 14, 1952. Tisbury Manor is excited to join the National Society in celebrating this milestone by spotlighting members of the chapter through the years.

Current Chapter Chaplain Bernice “Bunny” Knight joined the chapter in 1956. Her mother, Priscilla Champion Robinson, was one of the original charter members. Knight’s daughter, Cori Todd, joined the chapter in 2013, making it three generations. All three women joined under Patriot John Moore. 

Moor was born in Dunstable, Massachusetts, and married Margaret Goffe in New Hampshire in 1754. He fought during the Revolutionary War in New Hampshire as a captain and was promoted to major during the battle of Bunker Hill. He moved to Maine after the war and is buried in Old Oak Cemetery in Norridgewock.  Over 260 daughters have joined with this patriot. A DAR chapter dedicated this memorial tombstone at his gravesite in 1904.

Knight has served the chapter as regent, as well as many other offices over the years. In 2013 Tisbury Manor awarded her the Honorary Chapter Regent pin for her dedication to the chapter and DAR.
