Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis Club fall raffle winner
DEXTER — The winner of this years’ Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis Club fall raffle is Frank Reynolds. He chose the cash prize of $1,200 and Reynolds was presented a check at the Nov. 22 Kiwanis meeting. Ron Apel has chaired the raffle committee for several years and he was congratulated for a job well done.
This is a major fundraiser for the club. The Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis Club is involved in several community projects. The money raised by the raffle goes into community projects, such as a yearly bike rodeo where the children learn bike safety and receive a free helmet. Other projects include Hooked on Fishing, the weekly knapsack and food box distribution and the holiday food box project for families in the community. The holiday food boxes project is co-hosted by the Dexter Regional High School Student Council.
The meeting guest speaker was Dexter Police Department Resource Officer Allen Drew. His beat is the schools where he is present for the youth’s protection but most importantly to be available for them to have a trusted adult, a policeman, that they can turn to for guidance. He is a good role model.
Drew is in his early 60s and soon will attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy to enhance his career. It will be a rigorous 16-week program and Drew will likely be the oldest person to go through the program.
He impressed the Kiwanis members with his passion for his job and concern for the children of Dexter. He exemplifies the Kiwanis motto To Serve the Children of the World.
