PCES recognizes October Students of the Month

GUILFORD — Fifteen pupils in grades 5-8 at Piscataquis Community Elementary School are October Students of the Month. The month’s honorees were presented with certificates in front of their peers and teachers during an assembly in the cafeteria to start the day on Oct. 31.

Students of the Month are selected by their teachers for criteria such as outstanding citizenship and academic performance. Principal Anita Wright told the audience that some of the recipients joined an after-school group because she was eager to help others and be engaged, takes their learning seriously while also having a fun time, serves as a positive role model for his peers, takes control of their learning by asking questions and “moved from an I can’t attitude to an I can in math.”

The 15 newest Students of the Month at PCES are fifth-graders Sophie Barker, Aireana Bickmore and Jacob Cipullo; Noah Kain and Jaiyde True representing grade 6; grade 7 honorees Khloe Kimball, Gabby Koscielny, Jonathan MacNeil, Timothy MacNeil, and Rylee White-Chabot; and eighth-graders: Scott Chadbourne, Dominic Cookson Chy-Leigh Duncan, Karlie Ellis and Wally Williams.

The morning meeting included the recognition of five PCES “Upstanders,” students who have stood up for their peers and/or others over the previous few weeks. The Upstanders were presented with a personalized boomerang made by Guidance Director Jason Schriver, signifying that good deeds come back.
