Halloween BooNanza this weekend

DOVER-FOXCROFT — A number of events are planned for the weekend and on the holiday as part of the annual Dover-Foxcroft Halloween BooNanza. A full schedule and more information is available at http://www.boonanza.info/.

On Friday, October 25 the Thompson Free Library hosts a free screening of the classic horror movie “Nosferatu” at 6 p.m. with live accompaniment by Jason Curran.

“Joker” opens at the Center Theatre at 7 p.m. and runs through October 31, go to www.centertheatre.org for the full schedule.

COSTUMED PARADERS — A past procession traveled through the downtown as part of the Dover-Foxcroft Halloween BooNanza. A day full of events will mark the holiday this year on Saturday, October 26 leading up to the day on Thursday, October 31.

On the evening of October 26 the Bear’s Den hosts an adult Halloween party starting at 8 p.m. with live music from Honky Tonkers and cash prizes for costume contest winners.

On Saturday, October 27 the Mayo Regional Hospital and Piscataquis Regional YMCA fourth annual Halloween BooNanza 3K starts at 9 a.m. by the fire station on East Main Street, with registration beforehand. The race and walk is free for participants, prizes will be awarded and costumes are encouraged.

The grand opening and open house for Repeat After Me is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 122 East Main Street location. Kids can make slime and sales will be storewide.

Dunkin Donuts hosts donut decorating and free hot cocoa for children from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

The Head to Tails Family Pet Store pet photo booth will be set up outside on East Main Street by the Union Square Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (inside the store with rain).

The PRYMCA has a free spooktacular swim in the pool from 10:30-11:30 a.m. with healthy Halloween snacks.

Tractor Supply invites to the public to stop by at 11 a.m. to take part and view a pet costume contest. The categories include feathered friends, backyard friends, little friends and furry friends.

Subway hosts free kids’ meals and a “scary” costume contest from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Dover True Value hosts “Who Done It?” from noon to 2 p.m. The children’s clue-themed interactive mystery game will have young detectives picking up game cards, collecting clues to solve the case and then returning the cards for a prize.

At 1 p.m. a children’s and pet costume parade starts at the courthouse parking lot and travels to the Center Theatre parking lot. Glow sticks from the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department will be handed out at the start of the procession.

The Glow Run 5K starts at 6 p.m. at The Commons at Central Hall. Pre-registraton is recommended at https://runsignup.com/Race/ME/DoverFoxcroft/TheCommonatCentralHallGLOWRUN5k.

Foxcroft Academy JMG’s Haunted Pathway will be on the walking trail behind the school from 7-10:30 p.m., please park in the student lot and follow the signs.

At 10 p.m. the Center Theatre screens “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” live on stage and on the big screen.

On Halloween (Thursday, October 31) the Thompson Free Library hosts a special Halloween storytime at 11 a.m. with books, snacks and time for free play. Kids are welcome to wear a costume but don’t have to.

The Hibbard Skilled Nursing Center hosts its annual trick or treating event from 4-7 p.m. as residents will hand out candy — they will have a balloon tied outside their door.

From 4:30-7 p.m. the Thompson Free Library opens the original front doors for trick or treaters to come in and get a free book while supplies last.

That evening trick or treaters can stop by Mayo Regional Hospital for a candy safety scan and the hospital will be serving a healthy snack.
