Vafiades wins Inland cross country championship

LINCOLN — Lexi Vafiades of the Ridge View Community School in Dexter won the Inland cross country championship on October 21 at Mattanawcook Middle School. Vafiades covered the 1.85 miles in a time of 13 minutes, 11.16 seconds, besting the time of 13:13.36 for Kaylee Johnston of Doughty Middle School in Bangor along with 112 other entrants.

Vafiades helped the Tigers finish third among nine teams with a score of 106 points. Reeds Brook Middle School of Hampden won the meet with 40 points and Cohen Middle School of Bangor finished second with a score of 73 points.

Joining Vafiades as the team’s top five runners were Brianna Vafiades, 11th in a time of 14:00.67; Abilene Corson, 22nd at 15:00.82; Autumn Picard, 30th at 15:21.71; and Breanna Packard, 42nd at 15:46.48.

Seven other Ridge View runners raced in Lincoln: Claire Fogler, 68th at 17:03.66; Avery Fogler, 73rd at 17:23.08; Hannah Dean, 83rd at 18:18.67; Hailey Libby, 92nd at 19:15.27; Kaylee Fuller, 93rd at 19:21.53; Kenzie Kimball, 95th at 19:40.24; and Arriana Ronco, 99th at 20:19.66.

Four girls from SeDoMoCha Middle in Dover-Foxcroft ran in the Inland championship. Heidi Clawson finished 32nd overall in a time of 15:26.01.

The Eagles’ Elle Laurent came in 100th at 20:44.99, Gwendolyn Atwater was 105th at 22:25.14 and finishing 112th was Natalie Healey at 24:27.32.

In the boys’ meet, Willis Rienhardt of Ridge View came in seventh among 99 competitors with his time of 11:59.44. Teammate Jefferson Santos was 47th at 14:55.06.

Two SeDoMoCha boys ran. Tanner Ladd placed 49th at 14:59.35 and coming in 65th was Kody Kimball at 16:29.25.
