SeDoMoCha students enjoy Maine foods

DOVER-FOXCROFT — During the week of Sept. 16 students at the SeDoMoCha School enjoyed foods grown in the state for Maine Harvest Lunch Week.

RSU 68 Food Service Manager Heather Whitten said, “We featured broccoli grown in Aroostook County, Wyman’s of Maine blueberries, locally grown apples, (Stutzman’s Farm of Sangerville) tomatoes and Maine lobster. Students from Erica Tapley’s grade 2 class helped to shuck the Maine corn on the cob we also enjoyed.”

“It was a bit out of the box but we want to provide an opportunity for students to experience new foods while supporting local farms and industries,” Whitten said. “Our SeDoMoCha Food Service goal is to ‘Fuel those engines.’ Children learn better when they are not distracted by hunger and it is our job to help eliminate food insecurities.”

On Wednesday SeDoMoCha students and staff were encouraged to wear their favorite Maine-themed clothing to help celebrate the week.
