DEXTER — The Dexter Historical Society and the Abbott Memorial Library will hold a ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. to rededicate the memorial urn at the foot of the Dexter’s Civil War Monument.

The urn which was set in place in 1929, by the Women’s Relief Corps in honor of the Grand Army of the Republic has been fully restored and installed in a new setting at the base of the monument on Main Street hill. Most of the restoration work was done by Tina Santos of Dexter aided by a donation from the children of Clayton Bennett.

In attendance will be the Sons of Union Veterans. Andrew Bermudez of the First Baptist Church will give an invocation and Rick Whitney of the Dexter Historical Society will speak on the history of the monument and the role of the Grand Army of the Republic. Refreshments will be served in the library following the ceremony. For more information, please call 924-7292.
