Play reading Aug. 25 at Wayside Theatre

DEXTER — Calling all shy, lazy actors. A play reading of “A Flea in Her Ear” will be at the Wayside Theatre on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m.

No experience needed, no lines to memorize, no rehearsals, no stage directions or costumes. Just sit on the stage, read a part (or two or three depending) and have fun. Scripts provided at the reading.

Last month the group chose “A Flea in Her Ear” not knowing anything about the play. The group just liked the title and hoped it would be a comedy — it is.

It is Paris at the turn of the 20th century, and the lovely Raymonde Chandebise, after years of wedded bliss, begins to doubt the fidelity of her husband Victor Emmanuel who suddenly has become sexually inactive, or, as Raymonde puts it, “after having been a husband — and what a husband! — suddenly stopped — like that! Between one day and the next!” She does not realize, however, that his behavior is due to a nervous condition.

Raymonde and her best friend write an anonymous letter to Victor, intended to expose Victor’s infidelity. Instead, they unleash jealousy, envy and mistaken identities of 15 people in this three-act farce.
