‘Bedbugs’ perform at Monson Summerfest

MONSON — The Center Theatre’s first Summer Drama Camp in Monson came to a rousing conclusion on Saturday, July 20 during Monson Summerfest with a performance of “Bedbugs,” written by Leah Genuario. The cast of colorful kids and an audience of 70 onlookers ignored the high heat and celebrated the completion of camp.

The campers spent the previous two weeks working on their lines, costumes and scenery at the Tenney House in Monson. The space for camp was generously provided by Monson Arts along with the chairs and a tent for the performance. Patrick Myers, executive director of the Center Theatre, said that many people, businesses and organizations contributed to the success of the camp.

“The Monson camp was truly a community effort,” Myers said. “From Monson Arts providing a beautiful space for the kids, to local businesses and individuals supporting scholarships, a grant from the Piscataquis County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation, and staffing help from Goodwill of Northern New England’s Summer Associate Program — the Center Theatre certainly couldn’t have done it all on our own.”

Myers said that due to the success of this year’s inaugural effort, the Center Theatre is hoping to continue the camp next summer. The Center Theatre is also offering two more camp sessions at the East Sangerville Grange.
