Artful grief workshop for children

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Children grieve differently than adults. Children often aren’t able to verbalize their thoughts and feelings surrounding loss or it may be easier to express and process their grief in non-verbal ways. Using the creative process as a tool for personal expression can be very helpful and fulfilling in one’s grief journey, regardless of age. It doesn’t require one to talk and share verbally in a group. It doesn’t require any artistic skills or previous experience. When creating art in this way the focus is on the process, not the finished pieces. Although, the finished works are often creations to be cherished.

Pine Tree Hospice invites children ages 8 through 12 to explore an alternative to “talking through grief” in this free 90-minute workshop facilitated by Terri Kelley Palin a local artist, creative play coach and life stress reduction facilitator. No artistic skills are required.

The workshop is being held on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the Thompson Free Library in Dover-Foxcroft. Space is limited. Parents/guardians need to pre-register their child(ren) by calling Pine Tree Hospice at 564-4346 by July 30.
