D-F women’s club news

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)/Miosac Club recently served the community dinner at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church. Chef Dave Leighton prepared a delicious chop suey with green beans and hot biscuits. Club members provided bars and cookies. Members also worked in the kitchen and as servers and greeters.

Anne Cress offered grace before the meal and Minnie McCormick introduced advocate, ambassador and writer Charlie Boothby who read his composition about love. It gave a very nice message.

The GFWC/Miosac Club banner was displayed and many were interested in what it stands for. GFWC is an International Federated Women’s Club. There are clubs in all 50 states and several foreign countries. It is a volunteer service club serving many projects local and abroad. One member personally contributes to Operation Smile. The club contributes to Boy and Girl Scouts, Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis community projects, art shows and scholarships, the PRYMCA and Partners for Peace among other projects. Club members raise money with the Sebec Lake Ice Out Contest, community directory and yard sales.
