Brownville historical society news
BROWNVILLE — The Brownville-Brownville Junction Historical Society held its second meeting of the year on June 25.
Treasurer Lana Washburn reported that all bills are paid and that dues for the year are coming in slowly. The book treasury maintains a balance of about $3,400.
It has been a busy summer at the Parish House Museum even though the building only officially opened last week. Many new items have come in over the winter/spring season and something new arrives every week!
The newest item of interest to the general public is the receipt of two DVDS featuring home movies compiled by John and Joe Michaud (sons of Andrew Michaud). One of these videos shows scenes in Brownville Junction and people of the area; the second is video of scenes along the Canadian Pacific Railroad from Quebec, through Maine and into New Brunswick. These home movies were made by Andrew Michaud and his dad Sam Michaud from 1939 through the 1950s. These can be found on YouTube.com but will also be featured as the program following the Tuesday, July 30 7 p.m. meeting of the historical society at the Parish House Museum. All are welcome to attend.
The BJHS scoreboard is now in the hands of Suzette East for restoration. It is hoped that the face of the unit will be completed by mid-August, in time for the BJHS Alumni Reunion. Whether the clock and lights can be repaired is yet unknown.
The society had hoped that the bathroom renovation project scheduled for this year would be completed by now but that has not yet come to fruition.
