Robshaw repeats as Class C triple jump champion

FARMINGTON — Penquis Valley High School senior Cymeria Robshaw won the triple jump for the second year in a row and she came in second in both the 100-meter dash and long jump at the 2019 Class C Outdoor Track & Field Championship on June 1 at Mt. Blue High School.

Robshaw — who will run for the Division I College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts next year — scored all 26 points for the Patriots as the team came in eighth overall among 29 schools scoring points at the state meet.

In the triple jump, Robshaw landed in the sand pit at a top distance of 35 feet, 7.5 inches. She bested runner-up freshman Gabrielle Chessie of Lisbon/Oak Hill of Wales’ jump of 34-04.75 by more than 14 inches. Robshaw also had a greater distance than her 2018 state championship jump of 34-10.50.

In the 100-meter finals, Robshaw sprinted a time of 12.64 seconds. She came in second behind the time of 12.50 seconds for Winthrop junior Jillian Schmelzer. A year ago Robshaw was third at the state meet in the 100.

Robshaw turned in a long jump distance of 17-10.25 to finish second behind the state record leap of 18-00.75 for Orono senior Camille Kohtala. Kohtala bested the leap of 17-11.75 for Old Orchard’s Kim Armstrong that had stood since 1985. This year Robshaw improved upon her 2018 state championship long jump performance of 17-07.75.

Dexter Regional High School senior Danielle Cummings scored all 11 of her team’s points as the Tigers tied Washington Academy of East Machias for 17th place.

Cummings came in third in the 100-meter finals at 13.18 seconds. She also finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 27.35 seconds. Cummings was also seventh in the long jump at a distance of 14-10.

Greenville High School junior Bianca Breton scored her team’s four points by placing fourth in the javelin with a throw of 96-06. The Lakers were in a three-way tie for 21st place with Hall-Dale of Farmingdale and St. Dominic Academy of Auburn.

Orono won the Class C championship with a score of 112 points, Maranacook of Readfield came in second with 67 points and Caribou was third at 57.

In the boys’ meet, Greenville senior Ben Baldwin scored his team’s 11 points as the Lakers finished 21st among 29 point-scoring squads.

Baldwin had the day’s third-best time in the 200 at 23.54 seconds. He was faster than his 2018 state championship time of 23.68 seconds.

Baldwin also came in seventh in the 100 at 11.76 seconds.

Sacopee Valley of Hiram won the boys’ championship with 69 points. Hall-Dale came in second at 56.75 and Orono was third with 51.75 points.

Foxcroft Academy took part in the Class B championships at Brewer High School.

The Pony boys scored 14.33 points to place 19th among 30 schools picking up points.

Senior Hyatt Smith came in second in the triple jump with a leap of 42-08.50, trailing only the distance of 43-06.75 for Belfast junior Jack Hanson.

Smith also was part of a three-way tie for third place in the high jump as the trio each cleared the bar at 5-08.

The Foxcroft 4×100 relay team came in sixth. Seniors Cody Tetlow and Dustin Simmons, junior Hunter Clarke and sophomore Logan Martin combined for a time of 46.41 seconds.

York won the boys’ Class B title with 63.33 points, while Greely of Cumberland came in second at 53 and MDI was third with 40 points.

The girls from Foxcroft picked up two points to tie Gardiner for 26th place among 27 schools with points at the state championship.

Pony senior Cailin Seavey finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 97-07.

The host Brewer girls won the team championship with a score of 84 points. York finished as the 2019 runner-up with 70 points and Cony of Augusta was third at 59 points.
