Burdin, Drury, Reed earn frosh track titles

HAMPDEN — Three athletes from the area earned first-place honors at the 2019 Penobscot Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Frosh Championships on May 28 at Hampden Academy.

Matthew Burdin of Piscataquis Community High School won the 100 meters in a time of 12.34 seconds, besting second place by .04 seconds. Burdin also came in fifth in the 200 at 26.48 seconds and he was fifth in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 2.25 inches.

Jesse Drury of Foxcroft Academy came in first in the long jump with a distance of 17-11.50, winning by more than 7 inches. Drury also placed fourth in the 100 at 12.46 seconds.

The Ponies’ Jacob Reed finished first in the high jump as he cleared the bar at 5-04, six inches higher than a tie for second place. Reed had the third-best long jump performance at 16-09.25.

In the 400 Foxcroft’s James Jankunas and Jasper Makowski were sixth and seventh with respective times of 64.35 and 71.32 seconds. Coming in eighth was Alex Shedd of PCHES at 75.27 seconds.

Bodie Clarke of Foxcroft placed 10th in the 200 at 27.93 seconds.

In the girls’ meet, Sadie Davis of PCHS finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 64-09. She also was ninth in the long jump at 10-09.50.

Kayden Gilbert of PCHS finished seventh in the shot put at 21-07.50 and teammate Rylee Fillmore was 10th at 19-06.50.
