SeDoMoCha shines the spotlight on outstanding students

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Each month the SeDoMoCha School recognizes “Students in the Spotlight,” celebrating pupils from kindergarten to grade 8 who teachers and staff have determined best demonstrate a specific positive attribute or characteristic chosen for the timeframe from the Habits of Mind (a set of life skills for educators and parents). The May Students in the Spotlight — the final of seven groups honorees for the 2018-19 academic year — were honored during an all-school assembly in the gym on the morning of Friday, May 24.

“Welcome to our final Students in the Spotlight Assembly,” Principal Adam Gudroe said in welcoming family and friends of the 11 newest Students in the Spotlight — most of whom did not know these guests were invited. Gudroe then thanked staff members who have worked “to make this part of what we do here” and “it has become part of our culture.”

CONTINUOUS LEARNING STUDENTS IN THE SPOTLIGHT — During a May 24 assembly 11 pupils at the SeDoMoCha School in Dover-Foxcroft were recognized as this month’s Students in the Spotlight for demonstrating continuous learning, the positive attribute or characteristic chosen for this month from the Habits of Mind. Music teacher Alecia Talbot said the May theme is continuous learning, showing dedication to continuous learning and learning from experiences. She explained continuous learners take pride in acquiring knowledge and they look forward to what comes next, especially timely with summer vacation a few weeks away.

Each Student in the Spotlight was called up by grade to receive a certificate and water bottle from their teachers as the educators told the audience how the pupils earned the honor, such as showing perseverance while learning to read, researching their pet tree frog before going to the pet store, asking in-depth questions, engineering a custom LED flashlight, studying Hebrow and philosophy and more.

The 11 students are Ella Weber, kindergarten; Grace Wasel, grade 1; Jordon Dill, grade 2; Evie Wasel, grade 3; Jenna Hartford, grade 4; Samantha Kinney, elementary unified arts; Susan LaBree, grade 5; James Estes, grade 6; Tristan Turner, grade 7; Eli Sharrow, grade 8; and Evalyn Fisk, middle school unified arts.
