Tri-County Technical Center students earn a number of honors

DEXTER — At the May 1 SAD 46 school board meeting the following students at the Tri-County Technical Center (TCTC) in Dexter were introduced for their recent achievements:

The gold medal winners of SkillsUSA local and State CSI competition were Anthony Woods of Dexter Regional High School, Ivanka Hernandez from Dexter and Samantha Beauchesne of Foxcroft Academy. These three criminal justice students at TCTC will fly to Kentucky the second week of June to participate in some intense competition with other CSI teams from across the nation.

The induction ceremony of the National Technical Honor Society was held April 11. The 2019 TCTC chapter members are as follows: Makenzie Cooney, Alex Costedio, Danielle Cummings, Kaylee Harris, Riley Herrick, Kaylee Hicks, McKenna Higgins, Matthew Meunier, Samual Peacock, Katelyn Robinson, Riley Savage and Jennifer Smart.

The commercial truck driving students completed in the driving competition on April 11 at the Augusta Civic Center. The TCTC team dominated the field by winning five of the six team trophies and some individual competitions with wins are as follows:

Class B Vehicle first place, Michael Barriault of Penquis Valley High School; and second place, Grady Berry of Nokomis Regional High school.

Class B Vehicle Safety Inspection Award: tie Barriault and Berry.

Class A Vehicle: first place, Seth Woodard of Nokomis; second, Merle Hayes of Penquis; and third, Cameron Bagley of Nokomis.

Class A Vehicle Safety Inspection Award: Isaiah Crocker of Nokomis.

Finally, each year the 27 tech centers across the state from Stanford to Fort Kent get to choose a candidate for Student of the Year. This year Health Occupations Instructors Sharon Foster and Trudy Vintinner nominated Katelyn Robinson of Garland to be the TCTC “Student of the Year.”

Robinson is studying to take her state boards as a certified nurses assistant. She was selected by TCTC Director Dr. Patrick O’Neill to represent TCTC at the annual banquet in Lewiston at “The Green Ladle” – the culinary arts restaurant at Lewiston Regional Tech Center.

This year’s “Awards Night” will be held in the Dexter Regional High School gymnasium on Thursday, May 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with a small reception afterward at TCTC. All are invited.
