Game wardens locate two missing Millinocket women in northern Piscataquis County

T6 R15 — A Maine Warden Service aircraft located two missing Millinocket women at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30 finding the pair standing alongside their disabled vehicle on the Caucomgomac Road in T6 R15 in northern Piscataquis County near the Somerset County line.

Aprylle Tapley, 40, and her friend Tammy Michaud, 44, were last seen near the Golden Road/Telos Road intersection by Game Warden Bob Johansen near Ripogenus Dam on Chesuncook Lake on Sunday night, April 28 and found a day and a half later on the remote logging road near Caucomgomac Lake.

The pair became stuck after their 2016 Kia Sportage SUV struck a rock and sustained a punctured their oil pan. Game Warden Chief Pilot Jeff Beach, who was piloting one of the two warden service airplanes searching the area, found the pair. There were also 10 game wardens searching by vehicle, who then drove to the area where the pair were found to assist in getting them out of the area. A tow vehicle removed the disabled Kia SUV.

The Maine Warden Service was assisted by the Millinocket Police Department the night before as search plans were finalized. Warden service aircraft were launched the next morning and the search started in the Telos/Golden Road intersection area where they were last seen.

The Maine Warden Service urges all traveling on remote roads this time of year to use caution, be prepared with the proper gear, understand cell phone coverage is limited in these areas and let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return. Wardens have responded to multiple calls of vehicles broken down or stuck on back country roads in the past week.
