Abbot resident Boomsma to discuss the Grange on ‘Maine Calling’

Abbot resident Walter Boomsma of the Valley Grange, who also serves as communications director for the Maine State Grange, will appear on a one-hour program on Maine Public Radio Friday, May 3 starting at 1 p.m. The program is “Maine Calling” and will feature Boomsma and Past Master of the Maine State Grange Vicki Huff as studio guests discussing “The Role of the Grange in Maine.”

Most in this area will find it best to tune to WMEH, 90.9 FM out of Bangor. Participants expect the program will also be available as a podcast after it airs. They hope to be discussing questions like How has the role of the Grange in Maine changed? What are some of the challenges facing Granges in Maine? How has social media affected the Grange as an organization?

Anticipated telephone guests include representatives of several successful Granges around the state and Amanda Brozana Rio, Communications Director of the National Grange in Washington D.C.

Boomsma is the program director for Valley Grange in Guilford, Maine State Grange communications director and author of the book “Exploring Traditions – Celebrating the Grange Way of Life.”

Huff is currently master of the Hollis Grange, Maine State Grange Treasurer and Past Master of the Maine State Grange.
