UMaine Extension 4-H offers Piscataquis Passport to area youth

DOVER-FOXCROFT — University of Maine Cooperative Extension Piscataquis County 4-H is offering the Piscataquis Passport Project again this summer. Enrollment forms are available Monday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through June 3 at UMaine Extension, 165 East Main Street. Sign up opportunities also will be available at community events.

The project, sponsored by UMaine Extension 4-H and community partners in Piscataquis County, is designed to encourage youth ages 5–18 and their families to access healthy food and fun activities in the Dover-Foxcroft area.

Enrolled youth receive a passport that can be stamped at the SeDoMoCha School garden, Thompson Free Library and Dover Cove Farmers’ Market (DCFM), and at the free summer meal sites at SeDoMoCha and Mayo Regional Hospital. Also planned is an Adventures in Nature series in collaboration with the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Each time the participants have their passports stamped at DCFM, they will receive $5 in Veggie Vouchers, up to a total of $30, to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at DCFM through the end of the outdoor season in October. Veggie Vouchers are supported by the Piscataquis Regional Food Center and the Piscataquis Extension Association Executive Committee.
