DOVER-FOXCROFT — After what seems like an endless winter, we can’t wait to celebrate spring — a hopeful new season. And celebrating is a recurring theme this April at the Thompson Free Library in Dover-Foxcroft.
Make Psanky eggs with Librarian Michelle Fagan at the Guilford Memorial Library on Thursday, April 11 at 1 p.m. What a fun and creative way to celebrate the spirit of Easter with this Ukrainian decorative craft that features traditional folk designs — ages 12 and up.
Mary Margaret Ripley (of Ripley Farm) kicks off TFL’s 101 series with Veggie Soup 101 on Thursday, April 11 at 1:30 p.m. Mary Margaret calls soups “the epitome of comfort food for hundreds of years but they’re also highly nutritious, easy to make, and economical.” Mary Margaret will teach us the basics of creating a delicious veggie soup in this hands-on class. Make and taste homemade soups and leave inspired (and with a handout) to make your our own. Please bring a bowl and a spoon.
Students in grades 6-12 are invited to attend the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meeting on Thursday, April 11 at 3:30 p.m. to discuss teen summer programs and activities and possible book groups. Join TAB and let your voice be heard and play a role in shaping TFL’s teen experience.
Stop by the library on Friday, April 12 (9 a.m.–5 p.m.) and join the Voices from Home oral history project (this month’s theme is Roots.) Drop in and learn more about this exciting and vital project and record a story about your family history. Bring a friend or family member to interview (or to interview you). Voices from Home is about celebrating and sharing life stories from one generation to the next in the heart of rural Maine.
Wednesday, April 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the National Digital Equity Center will offer a class on Internet safety. Learn tips and strategies to keep you and your family’s information safe from hackers, online predators and cyberbullies. Register now, add your name to the sign-up sheet at the library or call 259-5010.
Don’t forget Ms. Michelle’s new Bedtime Storytime Tuesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. and Saturday Morning Storytime April 20 at 9:30 a.m.
What a great way to commemorate Earth Day by designing your own seed bombs. Have fun and contribute to the beauty and health of our planet. Join Carole Boothroyd on Thursday, April 18 at 2 p.m. for this mother nature-friendly project.
Attention Dr. Seuss fans: come celebrate your love of Dr. Seuss and get excited about Center Theatre’s upcoming production of “Seussical Jr.” (a fantastical musical extravaganza directed by Bobby Keniston) on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at the library. Play games, make crafts, and come in a Seuss-themed costume for a chance to win a set of Dr. Seuss books (donated by Center Theatre).
Poetry lovers are invited to celebrate National Poetry Month at TFL on Shakespeare’s birthday Tuesday, April 23 at 5:30 p.m. Join TFL’s own poet laureate Tom Lyford as he emcees this poetry open mic night. Bring your own poems or your favorite poems to share or come to simply listen and enjoy. Light snacks will be available.
Close out the month with TFL’s Movie Night on Friday, April 26 at 6 p.m. We will show an Academy Award-winning film from 2000 (rated PG-13; 120 minutes w/subtitles). It’s a romantic martial arts fantasy adventure from director Ang Lee.
Whether it’s honoring an iconic children’s author or your favorite poet, remembering and sharing a story from decades ago, observing an Easter tradition, enjoying a memorable movie, or having fun making soup, you’ll find many reasons to celebrate at the library (especially if you score a good parking space!).
