Students head outside for inaugural SeDoMoCha Ice Fishing Derby

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On Saturday, March 16 the Eagle’s Explorers (outdoor club) teamed with Mountain’s Market (Travis Belote and Kerr Dickson) to hold the first SeDoMoCha Ice Fishing Derby on Snow’s Pond. All SeDoMoCha students were welcome to fish for prizes provided by Mountain’s Market and its vendors.

The first 30 students received an ice fishing trap to use and take home. Food was provided by Mountain’s Market vendors and the SeDoMoCha School cafeteria staff.

The winners were Audrey Cleaves with a 13.5-inch pickerel; Carson Cleaves with a 21-inch pickerel; Wyatt Rayfield with a 14-inch pickerel; Jason Rhoda with a 20-inch pickerel; and Griffin Caruso with a 19.5-inch pickerel.

The Explorers is a STEAM-based program split into two groups. One group focuses on botany through growing plants in a greenhouse they designed and an indoor aquaponics system designed and built by middle school students. The other section learns about natural resources while hiking, kayaking and learning outdoor skills.
