Land use ordinance a critical piece

In 2016 the town of Dover-Foxcroft voted to approve our updated comprehensive plan as a tool to guide us in positive economic development, focusing on quality of life and natural resources. With housing sales up and some new investments, the future looks brighter than it has in decades.

Alongside the comprehensive plan came an update to our existing land use ordinance, which failed to pass a town vote in November 2018, due, I believe to a lack of succinct information to the public. As a critical piece of the comprehensive plan, it is important to have the land use ordinance in place in order to move forward.

The comprehensive planning board addressed certain concerns, with changes to the land use ordinance, which will be presented at a public meeting with the planning board on Thursday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the town office. We welcome questions and comments so we may present a revised version at the town meeting, Saturday, April 27 at 9 a.m. at the town office. It will then be presented for a vote on June 11.

After five years of work by a group of committed citizens developing the comprehensive plan and land use ordinance, Dover-Foxcroft is positioned at the forefront of thoughtful and positive growth in our region. We are incredibly fortunate to be nestled in the beautiful Maine Highlands and to possess the infrastructure to entice families and businesses to put down roots to grow our community into the future.
