4,700 lost power in Penobscot, Piscataquis counties

A problem at an electrical substation in Corinth caused thousands of Emera Maine customers to lose power in central Penobscot and southern Piscataquis counties early Thursday morning.

An Emera Maine spokeswoman, Judy Long, said there was a problem with a fuse at the substation, but the company was still evaluating how the outage occurred late Thursday morning.

More than 4,730 customers in Alton, Atkinson, Bradford, Charleston, Corinna, Corinth, Dexter, Exeter, Garland, Glenburn, Hudson, Kenduskeag, Levant and Orneville were affected by the outage that was reported shortly after 8 a.m., according to Emera Maine.

By 11 a.m., the company had restored power to all the customers, Long said.
