‘A North Country Christmas’ Dec. 23 at Center Theatre

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On Sunday, Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. Susan Ramsey & The North Country Strings perform “A North Country Christmas” at the Center Theatre, 20 East Main Street. The program is rescheduled from Dec. 2.

The North Country Strings will perform original and lively arrangements of traditional Yuletide carols and other holiday favorites to celebrate the season. Members of The North Country Strings include local musicians Susan Ramsey, Peter McGuire, Ruth Fogg, Chelo McGuire, and Joshua McGuire and featuring students of the North Country Strings Music Studio. Let the sweet sounds of fiddles, drums and guitars, cello and bass, and the beautiful vocals of this original North Woods ensemble fill you with the joy and spirit of the holiday season.

The North Country Strings is a locally based acoustic ensemble that enjoys performing good sacred and secular music in original arrangements for music lovers all around the state of Maine. A “North Country Christmas” presents the Christmas story in the folk tradition of storytelling through music. Many of the musical selections on the program come from standard hymnals, from ancient melodies of the folk world, and from more contemporary genres. All are arranged and performed in a “North Country” style by the members of The North Country Strings.

“We do this program because we hope that the selections will inspire, energize, and fill the listener with the joy and spirit of the holiday season,” Ramsey said.
