Author Paul Doiron to speak at Thompson Free Library Nov. 15

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Maine author Paul Doiron will speak at the Thompson Free Library at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 for the James Brown Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the public.

Doiron will read from his latest novel “Stay Hidden,” the ninth book in his series of crime novels featuring Maine Game Warden Mike Bowditch. Books will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of The Briar Patch in downtown Bangor.

Doiron’s popular Mike Bowditch series has received numerous awards and critical acclaim. His first novel, “The Poacher’s Son” was nominated for an Edgar Award by the Mystery Writers of America. His latest “Stay Hidden” was a USA Today national bestseller.

Doiron attended Yale University and received an MFA in creative writing from Emerson College. He is editor emeritus of Down East: The Magazine of Maine and a former member of the Maine Arts Commission. Doiron currently serves on the Maine Humanities Council and is a Registered Maine Guide specializing in fly fishing.

The James Brown Lecture Series has been endowed with memorial funds donated to the Thompson Free Library in memory of Brown, who lost his life in a boating accident in 2008. The series presents lectures on topics related to history, literature, and culture, subjects of great interest to Brown.

As Foxcroft Academy’s longtime English department chair, Brown helped two generations of students explore the world of books. He was president of the Thompson Free Library Association and led its Executive Committee during the capital campaign that resulted in construction of the library addition in 2006.
