Dexter boys fall in a quarterfinal at No. 1 Fort Kent

FORT KENT — The top-seeded Fort Kent Community High School boys soccer team defeated eighth-ranked Dexter High School 9-2 in a Class C North quarterfinal match Monday, Oct. 22 in Fort Kent.

“I’m very pleased with the win because we practice very hard to become winners,” said Fort Kent head coach Kalusha Kotes. “They performed today with a winning attitude and once they keep this going, they will be champions. Today before the game, I told them that we will take it one step at a time and treat every game as a final. We have completed today’s task, now onto the other one on Friday, which we will treat the same way just like today and we will play every game like it’s our last.”

Fort Kent (12-2-1) came out strong from the beginning, controlling the ball during most of the action and scoring two goals in the first seven minutes of play.

Sophomore Noah Martin registered the first Warrior goal of the game on an Austin Delisle assist.

Just two minutes later, Camden Jandreau followed suit with an unassisted goal.

By halftime, the Warriors built their lead over the Tigers to 5-0, with a goal by Kayden Nadeau, followed by a pair from Martin, one of which was assisted by Eden Paradis.

The second half brought more Warrior success, when Austin Plourde scored on an assist by Caleb Delisle, and Alex Sutherland sent one into the netting with the help of Jandreau. Nadeau also registered another two goals during the second half, on assists by Sam Albert and Martin.

Senior goalkeeper Reece Pelletier started for Fort Kent and did not give up a goal before giving way to freshmen Devon Gagnon. Gagnon stopped a few hard kicks from Dexter, throwing himself in front of the ball when needed, and on one successful save nearly getting trampled by a Tiger player.

Dexter’s Nathan Richards and Kobe Pillsbury ultimately scored a goal each with minutes left to play in the second half, both assisted by Ethan Boutilier. It was too little too late, for the Tigers, however, who ended the season with an overall record of 7-9.
